 Weddings and Events at Beauvoir

The beautiful historic mansion, Beauvoir, was completed in 1852 as a summer home by James Brown, a Madison County planter, for his wife and children. Beauvoir has long stood the test of both time and coastal natural disasters, and continues to serve as an inspiration for her longevity and perseverance.

Beauvoir’s name in French means “beautiful view,” given to the property and mansion by its second owner Sarah Anne Ellis Dorsey. As you gaze out onto the enchanting Mississippi Sound from the front gallery of the mansion, you will understand its meaning. A “beautiful view” is exactly what you see, whether the sun is high above or during a renowned coastal sunset.

The mansion sits on a 51 acre estate which includes billowing majestic oak trees and a newly restored rose garden. Beauvoir is a National Historic Landmark that offers timeless charm and elegance that you will only find here in the South. Come visit Beauvoir to see for yourself how the mansion and its grounds can serve as your venue for special events. This grand location can provide a romantic and unforgettable backdrop that will not soon be forgotten.

Beauvoir, A Mississippi Historic Landmark and a National Historic Landmark, was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005. Five of seven buildings on the site were destroyed and the remaining two were damaged, including the house.

                               Mission

Beauvoir, a Mississippi Historical Landmark and a National Historic Landmark, is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the legacy of American hero and Confederate President, Jefferson Davis and the Southern soldier. Thousands of visitors from throughout the nation and the world annually toured the buildings and landscaped grounds of the historic seaside estate.

Besides it's magnificent antebellum buildings, Beauvoir maintained a large collection of items belonging to the Davis family including furniture, art, textiles, and archival materials. The institution also housed a substantial collection of militaria, including several thousand pieces from the collection of Dr. Francis Lord. Most of those items were damaged.
